U.S. government is concerned that Iran could provide Russia with ballistic missiles for use in the conflict against Ukraine. In exchange for such support, Russia has offered unprecedented cooperation in the field of defense to Tehran, said John Kirby, the spokesperson for the National Security Council, in Washington on Tuesday. According to him, during the visit to Iran in September, ballistic missiles were shown to Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. “Therefore, we are concerned that Iran is considering supplying Russia with ballistic missiles for the war in Ukraine,” said Kirby. Ballistic missiles are typically ground-to-ground missiles and, depending on their design, can carry conventional, biological, chemical, or even nuclear warheads. Due to international sanctions, Iran and Russia have expanded their cooperation in economic and military areas. According to Western data, the Islamic Republic is supporting Moscow in its conflict with Ukraine through so-called kamikaze drones. Tehran denies this.
