In his latest speech, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened that those who allegedly carry out nuclear blackmail against Russia could be targeted. According to V. Putin, the “wind may turn” against “the organisers of this blackmail”.
“Those who are trying to blackmail us with nuclear weapons should know that the wind may turn in their direction too <…>
It is in our historical tradition, in the destiny of our people, to stop those who seek to dominate the world, who threaten to divide and subjugate our homeland, our fatherland”, Putin said in a speech to the Russian people, a recording of which was broadcast on Wednesday morning.
“The West has overstepped all the boundaries of its aggressive anti-Russian policy, and we are constantly hearing threats against our country and people. Some irresponsible politicians in the West are not only talking about plans to organise the supply of long-range offensive weapons to Ukraine, but systems also that will allow them to strike the Crimea and other regions of Russia – such terrorist strikes, including using Western weapons, are already being suffered by the border settlements of Belgorod, Kursk Oblasts,” V. Putin said in his speech.
“Nuclear blackmail has also been used, not only in the case of the Western-encouraged shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which threatens a nuclear catastrophe, but also in the case of statements by some high-ranking representatives of NATO countries about the possibility and permissibility of using weapons of mass destruction against Russia – nuclear weapons”, Putin continued.
“To those who allow themselves to make such statements about Russia, I would like to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction, and in some components even more advanced than NATO countries. When the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal to protect Russia and our people. This is not a bluff”, Putin assured.
In the same speech, Putin announced a partial mobilisation.
“In order to protect our homeland and our integrity, I believe it is necessary to support partial mobilisation”, he said.
“The order on partial mobilisation has been signed”, he declared.
According to V. Putin, the call-up starting on Wednesday applies to reservists, those with experience.
Putin explained the decision on partial mobilisation by saying that the West was “trying to divide and destroy Russia” and that Kiev was planning to transfer hostilities to Russian territory.
He also claimed that if Russia’s territorial integrity was threatened, the country would use all available means.
